March is Nutrition Month

March is Nutrition Month! With many people struggling to make healthy food choices while outside the home, Dietitians have decided to focus on eating healthy from 9-5 this year. One of the major obstacles I see in many of my clients is not having enough time to eat a balanced (or any) breakfast in the morning. Personally, I’m usually in a rush in the morning as well – that’s why overnight oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfast solutions. This oatmeal can be made the night before; you can eat it at home, or make it in a mason jar and take it along to school or work.

Overnight Oatmeal:

½ cup oatmeal
½ cup yogurt (choose your favorite flavor, opt for a Greek yogurt for extra protein)
½ cup frozen berries (or any fruit you enjoy)
½ cup milk
dash of cinnamon (optional)

Mix all ingredients together, cover, and place in refrigerator overnight. Enjoy in the morning.

** Note you can also add nuts / seeds such as hemp, chia or flax to increase your protein / fiber **
